It appears that Twitter has officially killed off its legacy blue check marks, which were among the last vestiges of the pre-Elon Musk era.
As of April 1, Twitter will no longer provide free blue checks to journalists, celebrities, and other public officials to curb impersonation and spam.
Verification marks will only be available to paid users, businesses, and government organizations with the removal of legacy checks. If a user sees a blue check mark and clicks on it, it says: "This account has been verified because it has subscribed to Twitter Blue and verified its phone number." Some users, experienced a "flickering" blue check mark on their profiles Thursday.
Musk hasn't held back on Twitter's promise to remove legacy check marks from the highest profiles. Even Pope Francis couldn't escape the 4/20 unchecking.
